Service Details

Nancy Jane Boles Hartz, 62, of Des Moines, passed away Sunday, February 21, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center from complications following surgery. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, February 25, 2016 at Carlisle United Methodist Church, 405 School Street in Carlisle. An informal gathering with the family will be held Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Family Life Center at the church.

Nancy was born April 5, 1953 to Roscoe and Irene Boles in Omaha, Nebraska. She grew up in Carlisle and graduated from high school there in 1971. She attended Salvador Beauty School and worked as a hairdresser for a number of years before opening her School St. Salon in Carlisle. She was a caring listener who “beautified” many there – from kids to teens, dads, and moms to grandmas. She formed many lifelong friendships with her customers. In recent years, Nancy continued to enjoy helping women look their best through her job at Lane Bryant.

Nancy met her husband Chad in 2005, and they were married in 2010. She loved the traveling that they did together and was an adventurous road trip partner. She enjoyed using her creative talents to decorate her home, create gifts, and plan events for friends and family. Throughout her life, Nancy was a very caring and dedicated pet mom who offered a home and unconditional love to a number of dogs and cats – and one pot-bellied pig.

In addition to her husband Chad, Nancy is survived by two sisters, Peggy Fogle and Polly Thiel; as well as their husbands, Woody Fogle and Tom Thiel, all of Carlisle; two nieces and nephews; and three great nieces. She was so much more than just an aunt to Kristin Fogle of Des Moines, Kendall (Heather) Fogle of Pleasant Hill, Amanda (Tim) Young, and Matt Thiel, both of Carlisle; great-nieces, Payton and Harper Fogle and Avery Young. She also leaves behind cousins, friends, clients and surrogate nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family. They will be making donations to various pet rescue organizations that were important to Nancy, Chad and her pets.
