Brian Andrew Cox, 46, passed away on February 17, 2016. He was born in Des Moines, Iowa, on April 14, 1969.
Brian graduated from Indianola High School in 1987 and attended Northwest Missouri State University where he obtained an Accounting and Finance degree. He was a talented craftsmen who enjoyed woodworking. Brian also enjoyed cooking and all it entailed. He loved grilling, smoking food, and growing peppers, but he was known for his mashed potatoes.
Brian will be remembered as a loving and devoted father, son, brother, and friend. He treasured his children and enjoyed attending their sporting events and other various activities. Brian had a great sense of humor. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Brian is survived by his children, Nate Bell and Ethan Cox; parents, Dolores and Kenneth Hoover; sisters, Patty (Mark) Shryock and Jody (Tom) Weissenburger; brother-in-law, Jeff Phipps; nieces and nephews, Jerid (Courtney) Shryock, Isaac Shryock, Zane Shryock, Meredith Phipps, Tommy Weissenburger, and Jake Weissenburger; great-nephew, Parker Shryock; as well as his aunts, JoAnn (Billy) Landers and Mary (John) Iliff. He was preceded in death by his sister, Susan Phipps; uncle, Richard Terry; and his grandparents.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 24, 2016, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines, with burial to follow at Sunny Hill Cemetery in Grimes, IA. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m.

I will always remember Brian as the kind hearted, soft spoken friend that lit up when he talked about his boys. He will continue to be in my thoughts as I pray for peace and healing for his family.
