Willie Karns, 85, passed away Thursday, February 18, 2016. He was born October 2, 1930 in Afton, Iowa.

Willie grew up in SW Iowa and moved to Des Moines in 1951. He met and married his wife, Evelyn Thomas on May 8, 1952. Willie retired from the United States Post Office after30 years of service. He said his greatest accomplishment in life was his family.

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Evelyn Karns; son, Don (Robin) Karns; daughter, Deb (Jeff) Martin; granddaughters, Jen (Russ) Flug, Kaydee Karns, and Allison (Lance) Reinbolz; grandson, Matt Martin; five great-grandchildren, Will, Cam, Josh, Claire, and Tristan; sister, Phyllis (Boyd) Kale; brothers, Ray (Eleanor) Karns, and Don (Betty) Karns.

Willie was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mildred Karns; one brother, Ralph Karns; and two sisters, Dorotha Ellithorpe and Betty Still.

Family will receive visitors from 5 to 7 p.m., Monday, February 22, 2016 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street in Des Moines. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, February 23rd also at the funeral home.
