Thelma J. Bellville

Thelma J. Bellville, 82, passed away February 14, 2016 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa. Thelma was born April 12, 1933 in Des Moines to Mary and George Foote.
Thelma’s love for animals showed in all she did. In her lifetime she served as the Directory at the Animal Rescue League of Iowa and founded Heartland Horse Rescue in Des Moines. She was a very active supporter of her husband, Orville Bellville, in the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine and was a lifelong member of the Daughters of the Nile and Eastern Star. She took great joy planning and participating in charity events for the Shriner’s Hospitals. Thelma was the owner of Big Boys RV Storage in Des Moines, Iowa.
She is survived by her son Bruce (Penny) Bellville and their son Jacob (Melanie) Bellville, daughter Terri (Marci Malott) Bellville, step-sons Steve Bellville, Jeff (Nancy) Bellville and their children Alicia Bellville and Greg (Amanda) Bellville and their son Ryder Bellville. She is preceded in death by her husband Orville Bellville and parents Mary Foote-Pierson and George Foote.
Private family services will be held at a later date with entombment at the Masonic Cemetery in Des Moines. Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa, the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine or Eastern Star Chapter 89.

Thelma was instrumental in founding Help The Animals, Inc. with Bes Sandberg. May you find comfort in knowing Thelma and Bes are caring for pets in Heaven. Thelma and Orville remained honorary consultants for our organization all their lives.

I am so sorry for Thelma's passing. She is in God's hands now and out of any pain.
I knew Thelma and her family growing up and it was always a pleasure to see her whenever I came to Des Moines. She will be missed.

Between you, Grandma, Dad and Mom, (your BFF) John. Deb, Diana and I always felt loved, supported, nurtured and safe. You made our special days more special because you were there. (Weddings, birthdays, holidays...) We will miss and love you always. Until we meet again...

I am so sorry to hear of Thelma's passing. She was an important part of the ARL's history and will be missed. She was a friend, colleague and activist for animal welfare. I will always remember our talks and horse rescues. Our thoughts are with the Bellville family.
