George Nuzum
February 10, 2016
George Washington Nuzum, 89, passed away February 10, 2016. Visitation will be Thursday, February 18, 2016 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, IA. Followed by a graveside service at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, IA at 2:00 p.m.
George was born October 2, 1926 in Mt. Ayr, Iowa. At 16, he walked from Iowa to California to see the country. He joined the Navy and sailed the Pacific and sifted through the ashes of Hiroshima at the end of the war. He worked for Koch Brothers, Western Tool, and Monarch Window. For the last 5 years, George has been affected by Alzheimer’s disease and moved from Iowa to James L. West Alzheimer’s center in Ft Worth, TX. He was able to take the Honors Flight to Washington, DC the summer of 2011.
George was pleased by the things that most people are too busy to see; like trees and buildings and children’s smiles. He was kind to friends and strangers alike and will be missed by us all.
He leaves his wife, Mary of Burleson, TX; two daughters, Christine (Dave) Kennedy and Vicki (Don) Twiford; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and his sister, Ruth Vilines of Norwalk, IA.

Mary, Christine, Vicki and Family.
I was shocked, and saddened to read George's obituary in today's DSM Register - please accept our sympathies, and prayers. George was a very kind person, and a great neighbor.
I will always remember him sitting in a lawn chair in the front yard with a garden hose in his hand watering the yard ..... George told my Mother that it was his way of relaxing.
May God's Blessings be with you today, and in the days ahead.
