Everyone knew Ryan as an avid sports fan enjoying Iowa State Cyclones, the KC Royal’s, and Dallas Cowboys. Ryan was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. Throughout his career Ryan’s memberships included the Board of Directors of West Bank’s Charitable Foundation, Greater Des Moines Leadership Institute, a Board Member of Broadlawns Medical Center Advocacy Circle, West Des Moines Rotary Club, Board Officer of Cambio Club, he was awarded 40 Under 40 and coached Johnston Little League.
He is survived by his wife, Jennifer (Owen) Wedemeyer; children, Andrew, Luke and Alena Wedemeyer; his parents, Del and Sharon Wedemeyer; his sister, Jenni (Josh) Wiig; and grandmothers, Marilyn Wedemeyer and Mary Ann Plagman. Jen and family: you are in our thoughts and prayers. Ryan's courage and faith through his battle with cancer was very inspiring. My favorite memory of Ryan demonstrates his selflessness. He called me a few months ago asking about another neighbor he saw during one of his chemo sessions. This neighbor was also fighting cancer. His first concern was how this neighbor was doing and if there was anything he could do to help. That's the Ryan I'll remember - thinking of others before himself, even while he was fighting his own very difficult battle. He will be missed.

What a courageous battle he fought. Fun memory from when we were neighbors, during the Cyclone Hawkeye football game, the Clones beat us, as they had many times. I'm really upset, the doorbell rings, and it's Ryan with a plate of cookies; he didn't say anything, just handed me the cookies with a wry grin and skipped his way home. A funny, genuine gentlemen.
