Heather “Hat” was born on April 18, 1979 in Des Moines. She went to be with the angels on Tuesday, January 26, 2016 after a strong battle with breast cancer.
Hat graduated from Lincoln High School in 1997, where she was active in drama and show choir. She was currently a student at Aveda Institute Des Moines. Hat’s dream was to open a non-profit salon dedicated to serving those experiencing major hardship. My condolences to all the family the she left behind. Hat was a very sarcastic person (in a nice way) that I know, that would always put a smile on your face, no matter what. I have worked with her on some productions at Lincoln and she was very good with being as an actress and as a dancer. She has touched and affected my life as well as many of my classmates at Lincoln that knew her, in a positive way that she will never be forgotten from those who knew her. I will miss her deeply, and anytime when I think of her being gone, I would turn it around and think of a good memory of her that would make me smile and I would go on. I know that she is in a better place that she is no longer fighting anymore and she is with god. And to Hat's children, I just wanted let you know that she was well loved by her friends and by the people who knew her well, and had that presence about her that made everyone feel comfortable around her. My sympathy to all, and I will see her on the other side.

Oh, man. How do you begin or end consoling anyone (especially family) about our Hattie? I guess I can say that we all know no one will ever fill her shoes in our lives, but that she filled so many of ours. It is comforting to know that as she walked so closely with all of you during her time here, so too will she walk with you from above. Her presence will never be gone, nor will it be forgotten. She threw herself into our hearts from the very beginning, and we'll keep her there still. Her laugh, her smile, the feel of her arms around us in happiness and sorrow will be etched in every part of us until the day we meet her again.

Hattie touched the lives of many people with her constant smile and kindness to everyone. She taught us all how to smile through good and bad times. She always had that smile, and it was contagious. She taught me a valuable lesson in life, which is through good times and bad, nothing can break your spirit. Thanks for the memories, Hattie. My thoughts go out to her family.

To all those family members & friends of Hattie: Please know I am praying for all of you as you move through this very difficult time. I am so sorry as I know how difficult grief and loss is, however I cannot comprehend the loss of a daughter & granddaughter as well as wife, mother, etc. Never forget that God's grace is sufficient though at times it really may not feel like it. Your strength to keep going comes from Him so lean on Him--He will NEVER leave you or forget you. I have many wonderful memories of her as a child--wish I could have know her as an adult. Much love and many prayers...
