Winifred Howard

Winifred M. Howard, of Des Moines, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at Fleur Heights Care Center. Winifred Martha was born on September 28, 1916 Fitchburg, MA. To William and Minnie (Adams) Pelkey. She has resided in Des Moines since 1929.

Winifred married Richard L. Howard in 1940 and they were blessed with three children. She retired in 1982 from her clerk position with the State of Iowa where she loyally worked for 35+ years. She was a long time member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, the Eastern Star and of Rebecca Lodge.

Those left to cherish her loving memory are her daughter, Sue (Bob) Schooley; sons, Richard (Sherry) Howard and Bill (Cathy) Howard; six grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; one great-great- grandchild; and other loving family and special friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Richard.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at St. John Lutheran Church, 600 6th Ave, Des Moines. She will be laid to rest at Glendale Cemetery. Family will greet visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, February 1, 2016, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street.
