James Shilling 78, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, January 21, 2016 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. James was born September 19, 1937 in Ottumwa, Iowa to James and Louise Shilling.

Jim was an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, golfing, and hunting. Above all, he cherished every moment spent with his family.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Marilyn; daughter, Marilyn (James) Grother; seven grandchildren, Adriana, Jason, Karen, Abi, Anna, Savana, and Jaxon; four great-grandchildren, Zander, Valek, Remington, and Karlee; siblings, Bill Shilling and Nylene; and many nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Dennis; and siblings, Lois, David, Eleona, LaVera, Sandi, Marvin, Wilda, and Johnetta.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, January 25, 2016, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 26, 2016, at the funeral home, with burial to follow at Rising Sun Cemetery.
