Ira Ross Murphy, 92, passed away Thursday, January 14, 2016.

Ira was born September 9, 1923 in Des Moines, Iowa to Ira and Fern Deaton Murphy. He was a cross-country truck driver for North American Van Lines for many years. He then worked for Des Moines Wheel & Rim/Midwest Wheel and was co-owner of Central Wheel & Brake Company. After retirement, he worked as a patrol officer at Lake Ponderosa.

Ira enjoyed helping people and was always willing to lend a hand to those in need. He liked traveling, fishing, and camping but above all, he loved spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Virginia; children, Kenneth (Marie) and Delbert “Del”; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Ira was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Frances and Ruby; and his granddaughter, Julie Stuzman.
