Michael "Mike" Fetters
January 13, 2016
Michael “Mike” Fetters, 58, of Des Moines, passed away suddenly January 13, 2016.
Mike was born in Des Moines, Iowa, August 25, 1957, to parents Carroll “Cat” and Mary Fetters. He graduated from East High in 1975, and began working, and later managing, the Grandview Market, where he met not only his future wife but his bosses, who soon became his future father and mother-in-law! Mike was later the owner and operator of Pacchenos Bakery and Bistro in Pleasant Hill. He was a people person, never met a stranger, he was a born salesman and enjoyed the opportunity to serve others. Mike was employed by the Rhino Group.
Those who knew Mike will remember his corny humor, quick wit and his practical jokes. He engaged in friendly competition with his neighbor over who had the best lawn, and took pride in his home and landscaping projects. He was the only person with whom his Italian mother-in-law shared her secret meatball recipe. Although life wasn’t always easy, Mike was an eternal optimist; he believed there was something good in every day. He had a kind and generous heart; there wasn’t anything Mike wouldn’t do for others. His home often included a spot for those who would otherwise be alone.
Mike is survived by his wife of 38 years, Vicky; his “daddy’s girls,” Christi (Craig) McWilliams and Tiffani (Luke) Matthaidess; his siblings, Steve of Temecula, CA and Carroll (Linda) Fetters and Kathy (Don “Duck”) Collins, both of Des Moines. He will be missed by his grandchildren, Cael, Camden and Kelsi McWilliams, Keira Alexander and Jaxen Matthaidess; his many nieces and nephews; and his dog, Bear. Also left to remember him with love are his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Kathy and Mike Slater of Des Moines and Janice and Mike Stueckrath of Windsor Heights. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Robert and James, and sister, Dolly McConnell.
Services for Mike will be held at Hamilton’s Funeral Home 605 Lyon Street, Sunday, January 17, 2016, at 12:00 p.m. A visitation will be held for two hours prior to the funeral, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Autism Society of Iowa or Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
Condolences may be expressed at www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com.
Mike lived a life that mattered, not by accident or circumstance, but by choice. He will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind.

Vicki & Family we are sorry for your family's loss. I never seen Mike with a frown on his face and he had a smile you could never forget. Mike was the type of guy who could make you laugh just by looking at you. Mike made a pizza I would have crawled the length of a football field full of busted glass just to eat and have driven 3 1/2 hours just to eat.. May God Bless your family
