Archie "Pete" Rhoades

Archie “Pete” Rhoades, 86, died Friday, January 8, 2016 at his home surrounded by family in Des Moines. He was born November 27, 1929 to James and Bertha Rhoades in Mendota, MO.
Archie served in the US Marine Corp during the Korean War and was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 7031 in Boone. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 661 in Liberty Center. Archie retired from John Deere after 28 years of service and delivered to the elderly for Meals on Wheels. He loved watching old cowboy movies, hunting, playing cards and spending time with his family.
Archie is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ethel; children, Michael (Sherri) Rhoades and Marta Parsons; grandchildren, Amanda Rhoades, Jesse (Tiffany) Rhoades, and Lenox Parsons; great-grandchildren, Berklee, Addie, and Braylynn; brother, Robert (Charlene) Rhoades; sisters, Cleda (Ralph Johnston) Rhoades and Dorothy Philby; and a host of other family and beloved friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; eight brothers; and three sisters.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 14, 2016, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue. Family will greet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. A private burial will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family to be designated at a later time.

1929-2016, the dash represents the time that Pete was alive on earth. This is the time that matters, to look back on and cherish. Mike, you described this dash last year and it was a great description of life. RIP uncle Pete. I'm sure the ones already in heaven welcomed you in when it was your time.

I am so sorry for the loss of your beloved family member. I had not seen Pete for many years but I'm sure he was still the same loving, funny guy I knew back then. May God hold you in his arms in your time of sorrow.

Uncle Pete -Heaven is a little brighter with your smiling face. I loved your smile and laugh. You were the best! My thoughts and prayers are with Mike , Marta and family at this sad time. Love you all.
