Sinh Lovan was born on September 1, 1930, in Sonla, Vietnam. Sinh was the second oldest child of Cheua Lovan and Chom Lothi. He was the last surviving member of his family which consisted of two brothers and two sisters. Mr. Lovan married So Baccam on February 22, 1950. During their sixty-five years together they had six daughters and four sons. Souny (Faluang Baccam) is the eldest daughter, Sidney Diep (Catherine) is the eldest son, Pheuy (Khong Vorabout), Khamkhoune (Phong), Souvanh Sam (Kim), Fawn Nhing (Scott Keo Soulinthavong), Khamphone Tame (Boonleng Keognam), Bounheuang Lovan, Palmer (Souk), and Lavanh (Ernie Baccam). Sinh worked for the Laos Ministry of Plan and helped So operate the family's general store in Laos.

Sinh and the Lovan family immigrated to the United States in June 1976. They settled in Des Moines, Iowa. Before his retirement at age 65, Sinh was an upholsterer for Dave's Upholstery. He was a skilled craftsman and was deftly with the sewing machine. He refinished and hand-crafted hundreds of chairs and sofas for family and friends. As a youngster, Sinh enjoyed riding horses. He also enjoyed gardening with his wife. But most of all, he cherished spending quality time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Sinh is survived by his wife, So Baccam and their ten children, fourteen grandchildren - Tom, Justine, Jackie, Nathalie, Michelle, Drake, Nathan, Heather, Jake, Jason, Tyler, Shyanne, Kaden, and Kenzlie; and six great grandchildren, Niyah, Aubrey, Ally, Gianni, Julian, and Ava.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street in Des Moines. Funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines. Burial will take place at Glendale Cemetery at a later date.
