Gary Lynn Young was born October 18, 1954 and he passed away Sunday, January 3, 2016 at his home in Des Moines at the age of 61. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He liked riding motorcycles and enjoyed bike night. He also liked boating and working on cars. Gary retired from the Laborers Union Local 177. He was very dedicated to his children and family and will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his children, Ashley (Jared) Charlet and Matthew (Sierra Persinger) Young; his parents, Marylin and Ole Thompson; sister, Rosalee (Jon) Driskill; sister-in-law, Shirley Young; the mother of his children, Kim Young; and other loving relatives and many special friends.

Gary was preceded in death by his father, Harry Young and his brother, Larry Young.

Visitation will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., Friday, January 8 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. There will be a second visitation period from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m., with funeral service at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 9, also at Hamilton’s. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
