Service Details

Gerald Halen Lamb was born June 7, 1922 in Webster City, Iowa. Gerald moved to Mason City, Iowa when he was 13 months old with parents, Della and Harley Lamb. Gerald attended Mason City schools. He married Johannah J. Berry in 1942.
Gerald served his country in the United States Army Air Force from February 16, 1943 until his honorable discharge in February 22, 1946. He worked as a radio operator for the Army Air Force, where he served overseas for ascetic Pacific theatre of operations with the 139th Army Airways Communication System.
After the service he worked as a mechanic and took several classes. He overhauled his first transmission in Mason City and was proud. He worked in Mason City at the LeHigh Cement Plant. But his heart wasn’t in that.
He went from Mason City and Thornton, working with his brother, Lloyd in his garage; then worked at a garage in Forest City and Garner, Iowa for a short time. He came to Des Monies in 1955 as service manager for Dawson on East 14th for about four years. He then went to Glen Sutherland on Euclid. They moved to Ingersoll and he became a body man, and then became service manager when they moved to Merle Hay Road.
When he was 75 years old, he retired as an instructor from DMACC. The last ten years was a happy, joyful time teaching young men that he knew about bodywork and estimating.
He also did some ministering for seven years at Bethel Baptist Church near Mason City. Doctor Reverend Bernard Rush was the pastor there. He had three churches. Gerald helped carry on work at Britt, Emmetsburg, and Mason City.
Then he started writing poems; he enjoyed doing this so much. He painted a few pictures and enjoyed helping people in need. He came home telling about how he helped somebody on the side of the road, or would stop as we traveled down the road.
There are many things to tell about his life and we know the good Lord knows them all.
Funeral services for Gerald will be 12:00 p.m. Friday, November 2, 2007 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines.
