Thomas "Tom" Dale Curtis

Thomas (Tom) Dale Curtis, 58, died Wednesday, December 30, 2015. Tom was born January 5, 1957 and was a lifelong Des Moines, Iowa resident.
Tom proudly served and retired after 20 years in the Iowa National Guard. He was employed by the City of Des Moines for 39 years until his retirement. For 25 years, he worked at the Iowa State Fair operating the Sky Glider with his good friend Tracy Shedd.
Tom enjoyed dirt track racing and was and an avid supporter of Todd Inman (5T) and Mike Johnston (14J) and many other local drivers. Tom was also a longtime fan of NASCAR Racing.
Tom is survived by his wife, Winnie and their children, Randy (Misty) Peckham of Pleasant Hill, IA and Debbie (Gary) Faust of Stuart, IA; grandson, Cole Peckham; mother, Janise Morlan of Springfield, MO; brothers, Richard (Michelle) Curtis, Tim (Ellen) Morlan, Mike (Lisa) Morlan, and Kevin (Aimee) Morlan; sisters, Terri (Paul) Avery, JoAnn Beougher, Nancy (Dirk) Ver Steeg, and Shelly (Bobby) Fausett; sister-in-law, Sheila Mundell; brother-in-law, Wesley (Terri) Peckham; many, many nieces and nephews, along with a host of other family members and beloved friends.
He was preceded in death by his fathers, Donald Curtis and Loyd Morlan; brother, William (Bill) Curtis.
Tom’s wife operated an in home daycare and he became an “uncle” to many of the children that care was provided for. He also was a “dad” to several of his children’s friends.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 4, 2016, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines. Burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive visitors Sunday, January 3, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home. Per Tom’s request, if attending the service, please wear casual clothing.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family in loving memory of Tom.

Words can not express my deepest sadness. Even though he is in a better place free from pain, just know he is not gone. He's watching over you and now your gardian angel. He will leave you signs to let you know he is ok. They will happen when you least expect it. Gods' speed Tom, until we meet again.

I went to high school with Tom, he was a great guy and will be missed by many. Thinking of you all and praying that loving memories bring you peace, comfort and strength always.
