Greg Larson
December 31, 2015
Greg Larson, 52, died on December 30, 2015, from natural causes. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 7, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Lutheran Church of Hope WAUKEE (not the West Des Moines church) 305 NE Dartmoor Dr., Waukee and on Friday, January 8, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home 4200 1st Ave NE in Cedar Rapids.
Greg was born on September 5, 1963, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Eugene and Janet Larson. Greg graduated from Iowa State University with a combination degree in Business and Construction Engineering.
Greg started his successful career in construction in 1986 working with his father at Larson & Unzeitig and Gene Larson Inc. Then from 1996, Greg built an office for Taylor-Larson in Cedar Rapids. In 2011 Greg rejoined his family in taking a leadership position in Larson & Larson Construction in Des Moines, Iowa.
Greg spent the majority of his life in Cedar Rapids, Iowa as a strong leader and supporter of the community. Greg served in many capacities including El Kahir Shrine, Rotary Club, Master Builders of Iowa, Ducks Unlimited, and Pheasants Forever. Recently, Greg was involved in serving Living History Farms in their latest expansion.
Greg was an avid outdoorsman and motorcyclist. Greg had two passions in life - hunting & fishing and touring the country on his Harley. Greg loved his black Labrador “Dillion”. Greg could never find a gun that wouldn’t hit its target and a bike that was fast enough for him. Greg was a “free spirit”.
Greg is survived by his parents; brothers, Jeff Larson of Des Moines, IA and Steve (Jodi) Larson of Richmond, VA; niece and nephews, Matthew, Anna, and Jacob Larson; and his life partner, Katie Todd.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the El Kahir Shrine Transportation Fund, 905 Tower Terrace Rd., Hiawatha, IA 52233 as well as Living History Farms. Condolences may be expressed at www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com.
