Marcella "Sally" Helmers

Marcella (Sally) A. Helmers, 89, passed from this life very peacefully on Monday, December 28, 2015 at the Parkridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Pleasant Hill.

She was born October 28, 1926 in Illinois, the daughter of Joseph and Susan (Heiderscheidt) Agnes.

Marcella was employed at Rusty’s Bar for many years until retirement in 2002.

She enjoyed reading, eating out at various restaurants, and her best canine friend “Muffin” whom she lost several years ago.

Marcella was preceded in death by her parents and her two sons, Jere and David Helmers. She is survived by her grandson, Jason Helmers; great granddaughter, Dahlia; nieces, Suzy Mrzena and Patty Bishop; cousin, Emogene Burns and other cousins and dear friend, Lorna Stephenson.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at 2 p.m. followed by visitation until 4 p.m. at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW in Altoona. A private burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery in St. Joe, Iowa in the spring.
