Nicole M. Underwood
December 28, 2015
Nicole Marie Underwood, 21, passed away December 28, 2015 in Chicago, IL. She was born January 29, 1994 in Des Moines, IA to Kassie & Steve Underwood.
Nicole had a wonderful sense of humor, was a gracious young lady and known as a beautiful selfless woman. She was an “AVID” Hawkeye Football fan & baseball fan of her brothers for which she never missed a game. She loved baseball, especially Derek Jeter & the New York Yankees and the Denver Broncos. Nicole did DIY projects, baking after watching Cupcake Wars, painting and crafts. She also loved glitter for which her father was not a fan! Her little brother, Carson meant the most to her and she always said “whatever man comes into my life will have to love Carson.” In Illinois she enjoyed her nick name as “Iowa”.
She was a proud 2012 graduate of East High School and was a senior at the University of Iowa, majoring in Social Work. Her goal was to work in the hospital to help families that had loved ones on life support.
Nicole is survived by her mother, Kassie Underwood; father, Steve Underwood; brothers, Brad (Madeline Ryan) Underwood, Alex Underwood and Carson Underwood; her boyfriend, Michael Consalvo; grandparents, Marshall & Kathy Irwin; Uncle, Kent Irwin and his children, Spencer, Justine, Haley, Shelby, Kaleb, Dakota & Eastyn; Aunt, Tammy Shaw and her children, Logan, Austin, Lexi, Ty & Sydney; Uncle, Tommy Irwin; Aunt, Angela (Jeff) Phillips and her daughters, Natalie & Sara; Uncle Jim Underwood’s children, Tyler Underwood, Denise Twist and Jill Mosier ; Uncle, Scott (Lorrine) Underwood and his children, Jenna (Josh) Rappleyea, Chris (Jess) Schaffer & Courtney Schaffer.

I wasn't fortunate enough to have met Nicole. I know her parents, Steve and Kassie as I attended East High School when they did. My heart is so heavy for them and the rest of the family when I heard of the terrible accident. I am praying God is wrapping His arms around them, letting them know that he is with them. That He will bring peace and comfort in the days ahead. So sorry!

On behalf of the School of Social Work, your family is in our thoughts and prayers. We loved having Nicole as a student in our program and appreciated the efforts she was making to improve the lives of others. It takes a special person to be a social worker and Nicole was truly special. She will be greatly missed.

Nicole's sense of humor was great, she was sarcastic and we could look at each other in class and role our eyes when something was said that made us go hmmm.... Having her in the School of Social Work in our cohort was a great experience. There are a few times that Nicole and a few of us would go to the bar to take our quizzes. I would tease her about how many selfies and snap chats she used to take of herself. She was so beautiful...hey why not huh? Nicole was the only one I could talk to the next day after a Hawkeye football game and discuss how nail biting it was! We both loved the field of mental health and she was very passionate about it. She would have been a great counselor (proven during role play). Nicole never acted like she was just 21 yrs old. She had such a mature old soul, I was drawn to her personality as a 39 yr old woman. She understood life already, it was beautiful. I am so very very sorry for the loss the family and close friends are going through right now. We are determined to have her smiling picture at graduation with us. Love you always Nicole! Make sure no one in Heaven calls you Nikki. ;)
