Dean Stump

Dean Monroe Stump, 87, passed away December 17, 2015. Services will be held at Altoona United Methodist Church, 602 5th Ave. SW in Altoona, IA. Burial will be at Stump Cemetery in Van Meter, IA. Family will greet friends from 4 to 6 p.m. on Monday, December 21, 2015 at Altoona United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the church.
Dean was born March 10, 1928 in DeSoto, IA to Josephine (Mapes) and Jacob Stump. After graduating from Adair High School he served in the US Navy from 1945-46 and then attended AIB College. He worked for John Deere in the Personnel Department for 34 years. He was a member of Altoona Corp. of Retired Employees, Cast Iron Seat Association, MO Valley Wrench Club and a 50 year member of King David Lodge and OES # 284.
After retirement, Dean continued building his John Deere collection. He also enjoyed traveling, attending his grandchildren’s sporting and music events, and volunteering at the church and local food bank.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Lois Stump; son, Gary (Lisa) Stump; grandchildren, Brian (Cassie) Stump, Carl (Kayla) Stump and Caroline Stump; and great-grandchildren, Ben and Lauren Stump.

Goodbye to my long-time dearest friend and co-worker. We have shared many memories for over 60 years. You were more like a brother to me than a friend. My heart is heavy and I have tears in my eyes.
