Donald H. Roland, 78, died Thursday, December 10, 2015 in Nashville, TN.
An Altoona resident for more than 40 years, Mr. Roland was impressively honest, hard-working, good-natured and extremely devoted to his family, particularly Rosemary Roland, his wife of 54 years. Born January 7, 1937 in Des Moines, he met Rosemary at Tech High School – he was 16, she was 14 – marrying on December 7, 1957.
Mr. Roland worked a series of jobs as a draftsman, an office manager and an auto-parts specialist, but was most importantly an attentive and supportive father. Rosemary preceded him in death on July 6, 2012. He moved to Nashville in October 2014 to live close to his oldest son in his final year.
Mr. Roland is survived by son, Tom Roland and his partner, Danny Brewington of Nashville; daughter-in-law, Sandy Tarrant of Boston; and son-in-law, Bruce Bowman, of Ankeny. Mr. Roland was preceded in death by daughter, Wendy Bowman; and son, Ted Roland.
Funeral services for Mr. Roland will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, December 19, 2015 at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW, with Pastor Chris Humburg officiating. Interment will follow at Altoona Cemetery.
Visitation will be held 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Mr. Roland’s memory to Ruth Harbor, 534 42nd Street, Des Moines IA 50312.

I will remember Don as a best
friend in high school. Alway a smile on his face, always ready to help out where needed. I am sure I would have enjoyed his company and friendship through the years but I let that slip away.

Uncle Don was one of my favorite uncle's, always so warmly welcoming & helpful in anyway he could be, he will be very much missed by all. My heart is with you & your loved ones Tom.
