Raymond Richard “Dick” Stanley, 87, passed away Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at Unity Point Health Des Moines Methodist.
Ray was born May 22, 1928 in Des Moines to Ray S. and Minnie (Brown) Stanley. He was raised on Des Moines’ south side and was a proud graduate of Lincoln High School. Ray served his country bravely during WW II in the United States Navy. He retired in 1983 from the United States Postal Service after 30 years of service. Ray was an amateur HAM radio operator for many years. His call sign was K5RRS. He was passionate about his craftsmanship with woodworking. Ray served as President and Hall of Famer of the Ft. Des Moines Little League.
Ray is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Bessie; children, Gary Stanley, Becky (Ron) Bizzell and Richard (Laura) Stanley; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Delores Pascuzzi.
Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. noon on Monday, December 14, 2015 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street followed by burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will greet friends two hours prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Iowa Kidney Association in loving memory of Ray.
