Mary Lemos, 84, passed away Tuesday, December 8, 2015. Visitation will be held Friday, December 11, 2015 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm followed by the funeral service at 12:00 pm at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines.
Mary was born on August 1, 1931 in Oinousses, Greece to George and Marika Makrenos. She came to the United States in 1947 and married George Lemos in 1951. Both she and her husband were born and raised on the same island in Greece but didn’t meet until they had arrived in the US. She was widowed at the young age of 39. As a single mother, she raised her family and put the children through college. Mary was proud of her heritage and taught her family to speak fluent Greek.
Mary enjoyed crocheting, knitting, cooking and watching football, especially Penn State and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
She will be dearly missed by her daughters, Diana Lemos and Joan Lemos; her sister, Carol Makrenos; extended family in Greece; and many friends.
