Service Details

Lester Richard Miller, 78, died December 7, 2015 due to cardiomyopathy. At his request, no services will be held.

Lester was born September 17, 1937 to Edith (Brown) and Lester Miller. He served in the United States Navy until a motorcycle accident ended his naval career. Subsequently he worked as a farmhand, a mechanic, and also worked on a Mississippi River tugboat and a shrimp boat in Bayou Labatre, Alabama. For the last thirty years of his working life, he was a welder for Venetian Iron Works and Brady Truck Equipment, and then retired to be a house husband, a new direction he relished.

Les was a contented and gentle soul. He enjoyed feeding birds and squirrels as well as the occasional feral cat. He never met a cat or dog he did not like and they all loved him. He found joy in simple things that many people never even notice. He was fiercely protective of and loyal to the people he loved. Nothing made him happier than beating his nephews at cribbage with a Double Pair Royal or a Quadruple Run, unless it was a good meal shared with family or friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and foster parents. Surviving to mourn his passing and miss him, are his wife of forty-two years, Marilyn, whose hand he held as he died; brother, Ron (Diana); foster sister, Judy McDowell; brother-in-law, Richard (Marcene) Steinick and a gracious plenty of nieces and nephews. More than a dozen cats and dogs wait for him at the Rainbow Bridge.
