Ean Lovan, 85, passed away on December 7, 2015 in Pella, Iowa. He was born on September 1, 1930 in Ban Mone, Meuang Moi Thu?n Châu District, Son La, Vietnam to Eun Lovan and Deng Lothi. He left home and joined the 3rd Battalion of the French army at a young age. He was injured and captured in M?c Châu where he was imprisoned. He was eventually released and free to go back home. That didn’t stop him from joining the 1st Battalion in Na Sang and later in Hai Phong. After the fall of Dien Bien Phu, he moved to Seunmork Saigon. He moved to Laos in 1955 and married Keuam Lothi. He loved his homeland so much and wished to one day return to it so he joined and fought with the Royal Lao Army. After the Vietnam War ended, he immigrated to Thailand and later to the Philippines before coming to the United States in 1981. He worked at the Des Moines Embassy Club and helped raise his grandchildren in Des Moines, IA.

He is survived by his son, Ming and wife Pane Lovan of Pella, IA; daughter Khamhien and husband Bounseun Sengmany of Laos; daughter Yuveda Leng and husband Soudachan Manivong of Des Moines, IA; daughter Thane and husband Bounthavy Xayyarath of Des Moines, IA; daughter Keme Lothi of Des Moines, IA; son Yeuth and wife Souksavay Lovan of Des Moines, IA; son Vilath Lovan and wife Cammie Praseuthkoun of Worthington, MN.

He was a loving grandfather to Aysia Lovan, Dorn Lovan (Kim), Pom Lovan, Mirinda Cole (Doug), Angela Baker (Josh), Phanavhan Meethahuk (Somthiane), Phongsavanh Sengmany (Vone), Phayvanh Somwatchara (Kaison), Cindy Lo DeGan (J.R.), Michael Leng (Tasha), Phillip Leng, Gigi Hosic (Admir), Gunyanee Xayyarath, Nee Xayyarath, Peter Chanthavong, Russell Chanthavong, Sam Chanthavong, Kevin Chanthavong, Nancy Chanthavong, Emily Lovan, Allison Lovan, Brandon Lovan, Katherine Lovan, Carolyn Lovan, Carrie Lovan, Brady Lovan, Brayson Lovan and a loving great-grandfather to 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Keuam Lothi and two sons, Thiat Lovan and Theuang Lovan.

Despite his declining health, Ean enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved watching Wheel of Fortune, The Price is Right and Tai music videos. He was a member of the T’ai H’ouamx Chae Diao Association, Kadsan Association, and Lao Friendship Association of S.E Iowa.
