Cleo Smithhart

Cleo Leroy Smithhart, 59, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family Sunday, December 6, 2015 at his home in Des Moines.

Cleo was born November 19, 1956 in Des Moines, Iowa to Milas and Violet (Peters) Smithhart. He worked as an auto and small engine repairman. Cleo enjoyed fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Cheryl; daughters, Brandi (Butch) Grimm, Danielle (Cory) Adams, and April Smithhart; step-son, Jon Arends; grandchildren, Hannah, Emily, Jaxx, Caydence, Ashton, Kimberly, Butchie, Linda-Kay, Isabellia, Violet, Mary, Cory, Autumn, William, Cleo, Tom, and John; two great-grandchildren with one on the way; sister, Linda (Fred) Knapp; brothers, Richard (Julie) Smithhart and Buddy Smithhart; mother-in-law, Mary Gilroy; and a host of other extended family and friends. Cleo was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, Don Gilroy; one sister; three brothers; and his grandson, Stephon.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with funeral service at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines, with burial at Avon Cemetery.
