Thomas Bruce

Thomas A. Bruce (Tom), 68, of Des Moines, entered eternal rest at home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, November 17, 2015.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m., with visitation for one hour prior to the service, Saturday, November 21, 2015 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines.

Tom was born to Ira and Ruthie Bruce in Des Moines, on August 22, 1947. He was a member of the U.R.W. Local 310 and was a Scout Master, Boy Scouts Troop 34.

Tom was a Navy Veteran, serving three tours in Vietnam, as a radioman on the USS CONWAY DD 507. He was honorably discharged in 1971. After his service to his country, he went to work at Firestone and retired in 2002.

Tom was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and son. His family is grateful for having shared his life. He is survived by his wife, Susan of 48 ½ glorious years and sons, Thomas (Jeri) and Troy, both of Des Moines. His grandchildren are Kayla, who followed Grandpa’s foot steps into the Navy, Cody, Annastaica, who has her Popa’s sense of humor and smarts, and Blaze, who was his side-kick and mini-me. He is also survived by his brother, Rodger (Judy) of Des Moines and sisters, Karen (Dale) of Texas and Barbara (Lefty) of Polk City.

Preceding Tom in death are his parents, brother, Daniel, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and grandson, Cody.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Tom.
