Karen Kay Patterson, 72, passed away Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center.
Karen was born January 20, 1943 in Des Moines to Orville and Frances (Boggs) Welborn. She graduated from Des Moines Technical High School. Karen retired from Qwest after over 25 years of service and was a member of IBEW Local #33. She was an avid bowler and was also on a dart league. Karen loved cooking Wednesday night dinners for her family and spending time with her friends at the County Line Cafe.
Karen is survived by her children, George Patterson, Jr., Debbie (Dave) Hoyme and Ron (Robin) Patterson; grandchildren, Bryon (Megan), Chad (Tabitha), Kacie (Trever) and Ronnie; great-grandchildren, Jayden, Brooklyn, Emma, Kaylin, Kenzi, Hunter and Jackson; brother, Terry (Nancy) Welborn; and a host of extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George; and sister, Theresa.
The family will greet friends Friday, November 20, 2015 beginning at 10 a.m. with the funeral service to follow at noon at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th. Karen will be laid to rest at Scotch Ridge Cemetery.

I am so very sad to hear that Karen passed away.
We worked together at the Telephone Company for many years and became close friends.
We always took our last break together, me, Karen & Melissa. It will take a long time for me to process that Karen is gone. We Promised to keep in touch when our office was closed due to downsizing. We didn't and now I mourn her passing. I will remember Karen as a very special friend. Until we meet in Heaven, rest my friend.

We feel the loss of a Mother of great love, and to her many friends.
We were class mates at Tech high. We are so glad we were abel to talk at the last school reunion.

My heart is hurting as I lost a special lady in my life . There are so many Great memories it would take hours & hours to write them all down . I'm going to miss your hug , your kiss on my Cheek , and your smile too. Love to the Patterson family . My family is here for you all.
