Mary Frances Backstrom was born September 20, 1931 in Scotch Ridge, Iowa to Albert and Agnes Moore. She passed away November 14, 2015 at Kavanagh House of 56th Street.
Mary was a proud graduate of Lincoln High School. She worked for Hawkeye Security for 18 years and Farmers Mutual for 16 years, retiring in 1994. She was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. Mary enjoyed traveling, being with her family and visiting the senior center.
Mary is survived by her children, Cheryl Moureau, Karen Steward and Steven Backstrom; siblings, George, Sister Karen, Janet, Delores and Tom; grandchildren, Jeremy (Amanda), Jason (Kaci) and Jordan Steward; great-grandchild, Harper Steward; and a host of extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Backstrom; daughters, Sharon Kay and Linda Backstrom.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 23, 2015 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 15 Indianola Road followed by burial at Glendale Cemetery. The family will greet friends Sunday, November 22nd from 2 to 5 p.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street.

Your Mom and Dad were some of the first people I met when I moved to the Des Moines area. They were such a neat couple and miss them both. Deepest sympathy to Cheryl and the entire family.

To me for many years while

Our kids growing.
We lost touched over the years
