Service Details

Talbert "Tal" Neil Zagar, 73, loving son, husband, father, grandfather, scrutineer, engineer, instigator, Mr. Fixit, expert food critic, fun-lover, mediocre tennis player, loyal friend, and Miller Lite enthusiast passed away after a courageous and fierce battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) on November 12, 2015.

Tal is survived by his wife, Jill (Dwyer) Zagar; his daughters, Kim (Zagar) Stewart and Wendy (Zagar) Wassink; son-in-law, Mark Wassink; grandsons, Henry and Theodore Wassink; and several Zagar family cousins. Tal was preceded in death by his father, Tony Richard Zagar; mother, Fern G. (Thompson) Zagar; and his granddaughter, Ashley Nicole Stewart.

Tal was a lifelong resident of Des Moines, first as a north-sider and then as a south-sider. For the past decade, he wintered with friends in Mesa, Arizona. He was an electrical engineering manager for the telephone company for 35 years, a graduate of Iowa State University and of North High School, class of 1961.

Talbert was a fun, funny and ornery prankster who loved good times, good food, good friends, Triumph cars, the stock market, auto racing and the Iowa State Fair. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his name to the Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation.
