Fred Oliver Scott, 76, was born July 30, 1939 in Moline, IL to Leo Chester and Vesta Myrna (Anderson) Scott. He passed away Sunday, November 8, 2015 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines.

Fred served active duty in the US Air Force for 8 years. He continued his military career by serving with the Air National Guard until 1999. During his time with the military, he lived in many states across the country, but has been a Des Moines resident since 1969. He worked for the City of Des Moines in the Forestry Department for 25 years, retiring in 1999. Fred was a member of Capitol Hill Lutheran Church and he enjoyed woodcarving and leatherwork. He and his wife, Nancy hosted foreign exchange students seven times. He was a selfless volunteer, giving his time to Blank Park Zoo, Reiman Gardens, the Des Moines Playhouse, the Salvation Army, and the Festival of Trees, just to name a few.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Scott, his daughter, Nicolle (Tim) McClure, grandson, Colin, and nieces, Becky and Sherylynn. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., with a memorial service starting at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, November 12, 2015 at Capitol Hill Lutheran Church, 511 Des Moines Street, Des Moines, IA. Burial of cremated remains will take place Friday at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, IA.
