Elly Alice Kotzian New, 104, was born September 28, 1911 in Kasko, Finland to Gustaf and Matilda (Ågren) Rosenlof. She passed away Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at Valley View Village in Des Moines, Iowa.
There will be a graveside memorial service honoring both Elly and her husband, Donald, at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, November 15, 2015 at Oakwood Cemetery in Sharon, Wisconsin. All are welcome.
Elly married Donald New and was primarily a wife, mother, and homemaker who enjoyed her family. She spent time gardening and had a love for flowers, art, and animals. She had the opportunity to travel to her beloved Finland several times over the years, with the last visit when she was almost 94 years old. She spoke four languages.
She is survived by her children, Jan (Beverly) Kotzian, Margaretha (Wayne) Makeeff, Richard (Leoette) New, and Ken (Karen) New; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Emil Kotzian and Donald New.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Samaritan’s Purse or Valley View Village Staff Benevolence Fund in loving memory of Elly.

Im sorry for the loss of Elly, as she lives on in our hearts and memories. She was such a wonderful, strong women with a great big smile that would light up the room.Always so positive, made everyone feel good about themself with her kind words.She will definately be missed. Im so glad I had the opportunity to take care of her and get to know her and her family

Many years ago I was honored to have spent time with both Donald and Alice. Don was always ready to share some interesting observations on life in Sharon, WI. Alice was always a kind, soft spoken and an encouraging friend to me as a young person. Her gentle spirit was so genuine. Blessings to her family. Melissa Walnoha

I got to know Elly through my job at Valley View Village. She was a wonderful lady and always very kind. She had a smile for everyone she saw. I will truly miss her.
