Service Details
Ira Allen Curtis passed away on Friday, October 30, 2015 at Mercy Hospital.
Ira retired after 40 years of dedicated service from the City of Des Moines Forestry Department. He was a member of Douglas Avenue Presbyterian Church.
Ira is survived by his son, Bill (Cindee) Curtis; daughter-in-law, Peggy Curtis; son-in-law, Mike Allingham; nine grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and many other loving relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of over 40 years, Vona; son, Donald Curtis; daughter, Cynthia Allingham; granddaughter, Kelly Jo; great-grandson, Eric Curtis; four siblings; and his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, November 5, 2015 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street followed by burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

We are so very saddened with the news of Uncle Alans passing . He was truly one of the dearest people in my life and in so many others. Alan always made me feel valued growing up and as a adult, by always taking time to individually talk with me and seeing how I was. He genuinely cared and loved people and his service for others was always a witness to me . How he loved his family and would always want to share about them each time we talked, he had such a gift for singing and playing the guitar ,we loved it when he treated us with a performance. So many sweet memories he has left . He was truly a precious gift from God in our lives. How he will be greatly missed .

Ah - what can I say - one of my favorite cousins (even though he always put me at the Post Office instead of the Library) - have many wonderful memories and am sad to say goodbye to such a wonderful friend - RIP Allen - and my love to all of the family.

Allen was always a part life growing up. When we were young, we would listen to Allen, Greg and mom talking about their experiences growing up, their hardships and the challenges they faced and overcame. Later, we would see him and talk about our jobs and our families and Allen had so much insight and perspective to add a calming effect on those of us that were just taking on our families and careers. Allen was always enjoyable and inspiring. He was always there through all of the transitions of life and over so many years. The time we shared with him will always be treasured, he added so much to our lives and he made this world a better place. He was a good man and he lived a good life. He will be missed.

I am so sorry to hear of Ira's passing. I knew him as a member of Douglas Avenue Presbyterian Church and also from an exercise class at Northwest Senior Center. He was the nicest man who always had a great smile to share with everyone. We will miss him.
