James Scott

James Henry Scott, Sr., 79, passed away Thursday, October 29, 2015 at his home in Des Moines.

James was born November 9, 1935 in Pleasant Hill, Iowa to James Lee and Ruth Mildred Scott. He was a resident of the Des Moines area his entire life. James retired from the State of Iowa after 38 years of service as a painter. He enjoyed his CB radio and riding his motorcycle.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Merna Scott; daughter, Denisse Scott; son, Daniel (Mary) Scott; granddaughters, Laura (Dave) Erickson and Amanda Smith (Mason Kiefer); great-grandchildren, Zavier and Isiah McKee and Danielle Kiefer; brothers, Tom (Helen) Scott and Jack Scott; and many other extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his son, James Henry Scott, Jr.; brother, Daniel Fredrick Scott; sister, Barbara Jean; and his parents.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, November 1, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral service will begin at 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 2, at Simpson United Methodist Church, 2600 Capitol Avenue, Des Moines, with burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
