Shirley Bird Mason passed away on October 26th, 2015 at Mercy Hospice in Des Moines after a long, courageous battle with cancer.

Shirley was born December 23, 1936 in Des Moines. She was born and raised on the south side and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1955. She later married her high school sweetheart, Billy Mason.

Left to cherish Shirley’s memory are her loving husband of 60 years, Billy; four children, Gary (Tammy), Craig (Estie), Randy (Pamela) and Sheila Mason Mohr; 8 grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; sisters, Patricia Sirfus and Beverly Kaili. She was preceded in death by her son, Timothy Mason; parents, Warren and Hazel Bird and brothers, Billy and Jimmy Bird.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, October 29, 2015 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street, Des Moines. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 28, 2015 also at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home. Shirley will be laid to rest at the Masonic Cemetery in Des Moines.
