Paul Joseph Rivas

Paul Joseph Rivas, 5 years old, son of Jesus and Yensi, brother of Anthony, passed away Friday, October 23, 2015. He was born August 9, 2010 in Des Moines, Iowa.

Paul’s life was a true miracle. He defied all of the odds. Paul was funny and loved to make others laugh. He was an inspiration to many and touched the lives of countless people. He enjoyed music and television, and he adored his brother, Anthony. His life was a gift and he taught those around him to be strong and to be close to God.

He is survived by his father and mother, Jesus and Yensi; his brother, Anthony; and many other loving family members spread abroad. Paul’s family is thankful for the special bond he formed with the nurses and doctors at Mercy Hospital PICU, which became his second home.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., Saturday, October 31, 2015 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Paul’s Celebration of Life will begin at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, November 1, also at Hamilton’s and will be officiated by Ricardo and Delia Lopez who loved Paul like a grandson. Following the funeral service, a potluck-style gathering will be held in the garden level of the funeral home. If friends are interested in participating, please bring a dish to share. On Monday, November 2, Paul will be laid to rest in Oralabor Cemetery at 11:00 a.m.
