Deborah Gatewood
October 20, 2015
Deborah Gatewood, 65, was born September 29, 1950 in Des Moines, the daughter of Forest and Marie (Caple) Sanders. She passed away surrounded by her loving family Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at Taylor House Hospice House.
Deborah retired as a manager with the Federal Reserve Bank after many years of faithful service. She was very passionate about politics and was a proud liberal. Obama just lost his strongest supporter with the passing of Deborah.
Deborah was extremely creative and crafty, and enjoyed drying flowers, making wreaths and any artsy endeavor she could get her hands on. She was an extreme artist, and enjoyed numerous painting projects. Deborah also enjoyed spending time outside in her gardens. Above all else, she treasured special moments spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Deborah’s memory will be cherished by her children, Lisa (James) Torres and Jeff Hummel; her grandchildren, Afton (Rich) Villalobos, Sage Torres and Dante Torres, her great-grandchildren, Olivia, Karma and one on the way; her siblings, Mary Sangster, Sandy Sanders and Leslie (Denny) Tucker; numerous nieces and nephews; other loving relatives and many special friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her ex-husband, Darrell Gatewood; her brother, Buddy Sanders; her sister, Susan Marie Anderson; and her cousin, Vicky Thompson.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, October 26, 2015 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, with burial to follow at Glendale Cemetery. The family will greet friends at the funeral home Monday one hour prior to the service.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Hamilton’s Funeral Home to assist with funeral expenses.

It's taken me a little while to put words together to say what I feel. For someone I have never met in person, Deborah was like an old friend. We laughed a lot, especially when I had to explain to her what something typically Aussie meant. She would then use that in conversations, and it always made me realise that she was a great listener. I'm sorry not to have had the chance to come and visit and meet her -- that was the plan for 2016. I'm very sorry for your loss, and I send you my sincerest condolences.

I'm so very sorry for your loss of your precious Mother, Grandmother, and, as Deborah often called herself when with her darling Olivia, Gigi.
I wish I could've known her in person. She was my friend, we took turns beating each other in Words With Friends, sharing funny pictures, and just checking in. Is it odd to tell you I loved her, like the big sister I never had and always wanted.
Please, accept my heartfelt condolences.
