Ronald Childs

Ronald Lee Childs passed away October 15, 2015. He was 79 years old.
Ronald was born February 25th, 1936 to LeRoy and Sylvia (Eurom) Childs of Newton, Iowa. He graduated from Newton High School in 1953.

On January 22, 1954, he married his wife Wanda Belle McNew and they became the parents of three children Randy, Therisa, and Ronald (Jug). Ronald owned a residential plumbing company then later started working at City Supply Corporation in 1967 where he became the owner, until he retired in 1994.

Ronald loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His passion in life was his classic car collection, fishing, and boating. He loved wintering in Port Charlotte, Florida. Ronald was a member of the Charlotte Harbor Yacht Club, Kingsway Golf and Country Club, Classic Cruisers Car Club, the Masonic Lodge, and the Elks.
The people who will treasure their memories of Ronald include his loving wife Wanda, his sons Randy (Anna) from Altoona, Iowa, and Ronald (Susie) of Boonville, Missouri, his daughter, Therisa (Dennis) from Boonville, Missouri, his sister Judy (Bruce) Crew from Fairfield, Iowa, 14 Grandchildren, 31 Great-Grandchildren, and his dog, Buttons.

Ronald is preceded in death by his father, mother, and one brother.

There will be a visitation at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. in Des Moines on Sunday October 18th from 3:00-5:00 pm with a memorial service at 11 am Monday October 19th at Oakwood United Methodist Church in Pleasant Hill.

The family would like in lieu of flowers, a Memorial Fund to buy a park bench for the City of Altoona in his memory. Any excess funds will be donated to St. Jude’s Children Hospital. Memorial contributions may be sent to Randy Childs at 5555 NE 88th St. in Altoona, Iowa 50009.
