Service Details

Charles W. Martell, 72, lost his battle with cancer and went home to the Lord, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa. A memorial service will be held at Christ the King Church, 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 26, 2007. Burial of cremains will be at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery in Totowa, New Jersey
Charles, or "Chuck" as he was known to his friends, was born in Ayer, MA and spent most of his adult life in NJ. He was 1 of 10 children, 5 who preceded him in death. As a younger man, Mr. Martell worked in the banking industry and was active in little theater, often playing the starring role. He was also active in volunteer work with AIDS patients. His marriage to the former Maureen Kline ended in divorce.
In 2001 he moved to Des Moines to be with his sisters. He led a good life in Iowa. He loved spending time with his best friends -- his sister Irene Crum, his friends Jim Wilson, Ruby, and LuLu Jansen -- and with the many lovely people at the apartment complex in which he lived. In 2006, he realized a life long dream in visiting Paris with his daughter and granddaughters. He was active in his church, Christ the King. He was grateful for the wonderful medical care he received, particularly from Dr. Demming and Dr. Tim McCoy and their staffs, and the lovely staff at Mercy Hospice.
Chuck will be remembered for his quick wit, charm and his sense of style. He loved to entertain, and was a talented interior decorator. He will be sorely missed by his 6 children -- Kathi, Susan, Kim, Kevin, Chris, MaryBeth -- all in NJ, his 11 grandchildren, his beloved sister Irene, his best friend Jim Wilson, LuLu, Sparky, and his other friends in Iowa. He will also be mourned by his 3 out-of-state sisters (Janet, Barbara and Florence) and his many nieces and nephews. The curtain has closed on Chuck's life but it was a good run. Au Revoir, our friend.
