Donald Lester Lincoln
October 03, 2015
Donald Lester Lincoln, 86, passed away after a massive stroke on October 3, 2015. Private family services will be held at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, Iowa.
Donald was born on October 15, 1928 in Des Moines, IA to Irene (Helm) and Alfred Lincoln. As a young man, he headed to Las Vegas where he played drums with greats such as Nate King Cole, Jimmy Durante, Sofie Tucker, Sid Caesar, and for Folies Bergere at the Tropicana Hotel. After the death of his brother-in-law, he returned to Iowa to help his sister raise her children. Donald played in various bands around Des Moines but his main interest and hobby became golf. He was interviewed by a local news station for regularly being the first golfer of the season, and for his hole in one.
He will be greatly missed by his nephews, Larry (Nancy) Tarr and Dale Tarr; his niece, Nancy Tarr Ruby; and numerous great-nieces and nephews. Donald was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Tarr; and brothers, Richard and Robert Tarr.

Don was a wonderful man! A kind, sweet, and understanding person of great talent.
He was like a member of our family for many years. My father thought a lot of him.
I did not know that he had passed away last year. I am so sorry to have missed his service. Thank you, Don...for everything! Debora

Don was a dear friend we worked together at R.G Dickinson. When he retired I told everyone at his party that he is the nicest man I have ever met. We played a lot of golf together. Sorry to hear about his passing.
