Albert H. Gomez, 80, passed away on September 16, 2015, at his home in Saylor Township. He was born in Des Moines on June 8, 1935, to John and Josephine Gomez.

Albert proudly served his country in the Marine Corps where he was stationed in Korea during the 1950’s. He retired from Iowa Machinery in 1996. Albert was a Roman Catholic and lifetime member of All Saints Catholic Church, American Legion Post 731, and VFW in Cedar Rapids.

Albert was a true patriarch and will be remembered as a strong, dependable, honest man who cherished his family. He was also a very generous and humble man, always helping and caring for those in need, and giving selflessly any chance he had.

Albert was an avid sports fan and Iowa Hawkeye football season ticket holder for more than 40 years. He also enjoyed golfing, boxing, bowling, and baseball.

Albert is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Eleanor Gomez; children, Ron (Darlene) Quick, Julie (Douglas) Matheny, John Gomez, Kellie Allison Kabela, Margaret (Mike) Quijano, and Deborah Rupprecht; 11 grandchildren, Jeff (Sydney) Quick, Randy (Kristina) Quick, Timothy (Mary) Quick, Angela Quick, Brian (Alison) Matheny, Marc Matheny, Taylor (Vanessa) Gomez, Aryn Allison, Brady Kabela, Sidney Rupprecht, and Max Rupprecht; 9 great-grandchildren, Ashlee Quick, Alyssa Quick, Jaden Quick, Mia Bella Quick, Ethan Quick, Morea Quick, Giana Quick, Tylen Tackitt, and Ryan Roeske; siblings, Jesse Gomez, Margaret (Jim) Lopez, Juanita Williams, Rosie Daughenbaugh, and Tony (Pam) Gomez; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and countless friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Josephine Gomez, and sister, Lola McCaulley.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 23, 2015, at All Saints Catholic Church, 650 NE 52nd Avenue in Des Moines with burial to follow at Pine Hill Cemetery. The family will receive visitors Tuesday evening at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m., with a prayer service beginning at 7:30 p.m.
