Maxine Cross

Maxine Cross, 87, passed away Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at Valley View Village, where she had been a resident for the past 12 years.
Maxine was born January 9, 1928 in Des Moines to Cecil and Mae (Stevens) Roth. She was a graduate of Lincoln High School. Maxine retired from Farm Bureau Insurance where she worked for many years. She had been a member of Clifton Heights Presbyterian Church. Maxine enjoyed bowling, but her life revolved around her loving family and her church.
Maxine is survived by her sons, William (Cindy) Cross and Russ (JoDee) Cross; daughter, Marla (Richard) Sheffler; sister, Lois McBroom; grandchildren, Brian (Jackie) Cross, John Cross, Andrew Cross, Becky (Zac) Oler, KayDee Cross, Jenny (Jay) Lewiston and Matt Sheffler; great-grandchildren, Alec Lewiston, Abigail Cross, John Oler and Grace Oler; and a host of extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Cross; brothers, William (Betty Lou) Roth and Gene (Dorothy) Roth; and her great-granddaughter, Evie.
The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, September 18, 2015 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home followed by burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Valley View Village for the exceptional care, compassion and love Maxine received during her 12 year journey with them.

Marla, Rusty, and Bill. So sorry to hear about your dear Mother. Growing up in our old neighborhood Bell,South Union, and Lacona. with lots of kids and hard working parents it was a wonderful place and time to grow up. marla and i were playmates and your mother and father were always so nice and welcoming. All of you were! My thoughts are with you and your families.

So sorry for you loss, be blessed to know she is in a better place. I didn't know her but, knew much about her, she seemed like a loving caring women. ..God be with you all at this time of grieving. Let Him wrap His loving arms around each and everyone of you in Jesus Name

So sorry to learn of your Mother/Grandmother's passing. I met Maxine several times and know how much she adored Becky and KayDee. My thoughts and prayers are with all of the Cross Family.
