Donald Lisac
September 11, 2015
Donald Francis Lisac, 71, of Des Moines, Iowa passed away at his home September 11, 2015 surrounded by his wife and two children.
Our father’s services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 26th at All Saints Catholic Church, with a memorial luncheon following. Stories and laughter are expected.
Dad was born March 6, 1944 in Numa, Iowa to Anton and Frances (Golik) Lisac. When he was six, they moved to Des Moines and into the house where Grandma lived until two years before her death. He always lived close to her.
Graduating from Tech High School in 1962, Dad started working for the school board as a carpenter. He proudly remained a carpenter his entire career, and had worked for Allied Construction for 44 years. He left his imprint on many of the buildings in downtown Des Moines, as well as across the state.
Mom and Dad were married in 1967, and soon after had Leslie and then Mike. He made our childhood fun, and treated all of our friends as his own. Being a grandfather was one of his biggest joys, second only to his devotion to mom. His sense of humor, big heart and smoked ribs were legendary and enjoyed by many.
Dad was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Marla (Westover); his children, Leslie (Don) Barrett of Phoenix, AZ; his son, Mike (Julie) of Kansas City, MO; his grandchildren: Kyle, Emma, Megan, George and Margaret; his beloved dog, Simon; his older brother, Tony (Phyllis), and younger sister Mary Ann (Ron) Marshall.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the wonderful Taylor House Hospice, and All Saints Catholic Church.

Mary Ann--So sorry to hear of the passing of your brother Don. I remember so many times at your house with "Big Brother" Don around, and later going to his home for a barbeque. My thoughts are with you.

I have many fond memories of Don and all of the gang...Saturday morning card games on his mom's front porch, working on our old cars where Don was very knowledgeable and helpful, scooping the loop until early hours in the morning, pizza at Chuck's or Millie's for a tenderloin... the list is endless. There were many years where he and I drifted apart when we had young families, but I never forgot his kind friendship and his willingness to help others. Marla and family, you are in my thoughts and prayers. Big Don- you will be missed and never forgotten.

So happy to have known Don, he was like a father to me and treated me like one of his own children. His quick wit and humor will always be remembered. Even in his dying days he made me laugh. I am both saddened and rejoicing in his freedom from pain! Love you
dad-don, save us a special place till we see you again.
