Jean Marie Stanhope
September 09, 2015
Jean Marie Stanhope, 83, died September 9, 2015. Services will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Bishop Drumm Chapel, 5837 Winwood Drive in Johnston, IA with a rosary on Friday, September 11, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. Burial will be at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel, IA.
Jean was born November 13, 1931 in Kansas City, MO to Carol (Snyder) and Claude Short. She worked for Central Valley Co-op for over 20 years. She volunteered for hospice, the Americorp Literacy Program, played the organ for St. John’s Catholic Church for 20 plus years, and ran the food bank in Paton; making sure the kids (including the teenagers) of these families had Christmas presents. Jean was a world class knitter and had her own knit shop in Sioux City, IA. She was also a devoted patriot! Above all, Jean was a very generous person who would help anyone in need. She never took credit for helping and didn’t want anyone to know that she had helped. She always said she wanted her reward in heaven, not here.
She will be greatly missed by her husband of 66 years, Erbyn Stanhope; children, Rebecca Ann (Ken LaSota) Stanhope, Steven (Pam) Stanhope, Phillip (Katie) Stanhope, and Rachel Stanhope; grandchildren, Christina, Jennifer, John, Sean, Natashia, Claire, and Jillian; 7 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Sarah Nealson and William Short. Jean was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Mary Rice, Col. Earl Short, and Annabelle Botz.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family. Condolences may be expressed online at www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com.
