Dennis “Denny” Renaud
Altoona
Dennis “Denny” Renaud went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, August 13, 2015. He was surrounded by his loving wife and family.
Denny was born October 25, 1942, to Carroll (Yeager) and Raymond “Doc” Renaud. He attended Altoona Elementary, Jr. High and High School. After graduation, he went to Waterloo Barber College. He came back to Altoona and served his apprenticeship with Frosty McClannahan. He bought the business when Frosty retired. Denny was at the same location until he sold the shop to Bruce Bogaards.
Denny met the love of his life and best friend, Sue, in 1974. They have 3 children, Jackie (John) Spellman, Jim (Christa) Addy, and Bill Renaud. They have three grandchildren, Faye, Frankie and Darbi.
Denny was active in the Jaycees, Altoona Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce and the Altoona Centennial Committee. He served on the Altoona City Council until elected State Representative. He served as State Representative for 14 years at which time Denny helped and saw a lot of growth in Altoona and East Polk County. He was a member of Altoona Volunteer Fire Department. In 1969, he joined the Des Moines Fire Department until his retirement in 1998. He worked in different stations as a Private, Fire Medic, Lieutenant, and retired as a Captain.
Denny enjoyed racing Dwarf cars for several years and all forms of auto racing. He enjoyed spending time with family, friends, grandchildren (who were the apple of his eye), along with his beloved companion, Gino, his Italian Greyhound.
Denny attended Altoona Christian Church well over 50 years. Denny and Sue had been going to Arizona in the winters, but have now returned to Altoona full time.
Denny was preceded in death by his parents Carroll and Ray (Doc) Renaud and his aunt, Florence Iseminger. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife and best friend, Sue; his children, Jackie, Jim, and Bill; his grandchildren; his brother, Bob (Betty) Renaud; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 16, 2015, at Altoona Christian Church, 2890 1st Ave. South in Altoona. A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 17, 2015, also at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials will be directed to Altoona Christian Church, Des Moines Fire Department Color Guard, Animal Rescue League, and Hospice.

My heartfelt condolences to Denny's family. As with Tom Fey, I served with him in the Iowa House of Representatives. We worked together on a number of bi-partisan laws, such as on firefighters. He was well-respected by members of both parties. It was an honor for me to say that I had the opportunity to serve with Denny.
May he rest in peace.

My deepest condolences to Denny's family. I served With him in the Iowa House of Representatives. He always had a smile and friendly demeanor. I never saw him lose his cool even during contentious debate. We had a mutual interest in cars and had great fun assisting Dave Shrader and his crew with their stock car. I will miss him. May he rest in peace.
