Charlene Smith
August 09, 2015
Charlene Frances Smith (Kirchner), 76, returned to her heavenly home on August 9th, 2015, after a valiant battle with pancreatic cancer. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her in her struggle and ultimately gave her peace.
Charlene was born to the late Harry Dean West & the late Alta Lucenda Whitcomb, in Alliance, Nebraska on June 26th, 1939. She moved to Iowa when she was four years old with her mom and two sisters. Charlene married Robert Wendell Kirchner February 6th, 1954, and was blessed with 6 children from this marriage. She also adopted a 7th child in July of 1983. Charlene loved to garden, sew, and cook. But most of all she loved being a mother and grandmother.
Charlene is survived by her seven children, Robert Kirchner, Jr. (Sue), Mary Lou House (Jerry), Karen Tucker, Aimee Reynolds (Jerry), William Kirchner, Carrie Archer (Dave), and Amanda Smith; her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and a host of family and longtime friends. She is preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Stephanie Kirchner and son-in-law Ronny Tucker.
The family extends special thanks to the staff of John Stoddard Cancer Center and the nurses and staff at Suncrest Hospice.
Charlene’s celebration of life will be held at Rising Sun Church of Christ, 6390 NE Rising Sun Dr., Pleasant Hill on Friday August 14th at 10:00 a.m. Family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Rising Sun Church of Christ. I am so very sorry for your loss. I just found out about Charlene yesterday and am very saddened. I had the great pleasure of living in the same apartment complex with her. She helped me out greatly with my quilting. And her opinion was always helpful. She always had a smile which warmed your heart. She was a wonderful inspiring woman and will be missed greatly. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

I had the pleasure to meet Charlene at her oncologist office. We quickly formed a bond and I called her "Char" which I now understand was very rare. She was a sweet, kind and special lady, and I am so blessed to have called her friend! My thoughts and prayers are with her family at this time but I know that she is at peace and free from all that gave her pain. May you all find peace in knowing that she loved life and was good in her faith and her journey.

I feel very blessed to have known such a wonderful person. I have many fond memories and stories I could tell about Charlene and was glad to be a Son in law for so many years. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you and I'm so glad to know that she has found the peace that she so deserves. Danny
