John Huss, 80, died Monday, October 15, 2007 at Altoona Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 19, 2007 at St. Josephs Catholic Church. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday with a Rosary recited at 7 p.m. at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St.
John was born February 16, 1927 in Des Moines to Albert and Nellie Huss. He attended Dowling through the 11th grade when he left to join the Navy. He served in WWII from 1944 to 1946. After returning to the United States, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service, then as a Printing Press Operator until 1951 when he went to work for Armstrong Tire. He was a union leader with United Rubber Workers Local 164. John’s family was his life, especially his grandchildren.
John is survived by his three sons. John, Jr., Dennis (Judy) and Kevin (Wendy) Huss; two daughters, Pam Cook and Shari (Mark) Gravitt; brother, Dick Huss; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Albert Francis, Jr., Phillip and Thomas Huss; sisters, Agnes Kral and Mary Johnson; grandson, Eric Ford and his wife of 48 years, Betty.
