Vera Palmer

Vera Jenkins Palmer, 100 years old, passed away Sunday, August 9, 2015 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston.
Vera was born July 22, 1915 in Des Moines, Iowa to Charles and Elva (Moden) Cooper. She worked for 20 years at Pioneer Feed Bag Co. and Des Moines Bag Co. Vera and her late husband farmed 40 acres near Indianola. She enjoyed quilting and was a talented seamstress. Vera liked to cook, loved animals, and was an avid gardener. She was proud to have raised a Drake Bulldog champion and runner up. She is lovingly remembered by her nieces and nephews, step-children, step-grandchildren, and step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, and husbands, Alex Jenkins of 60 years and Oakley Palmer of 2 years.
Visitation will be held from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., with funeral service to begin at 2:30 p.m., Friday, August 14, 2015, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Private family burial will take place at Laurel Hill Cemetery at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Animal Rescue League in memory of Vera.

I just found out my beloved Aunt Vera died at 100! Bless her. She was my mothers sister who raised her after their mother Elva died. Our family loved Vera very much. I have many fond memories of visiting her farm as a child. She taught me to quilt and about the love of God. She will be missed!
