Mary Louise (Porto) Anania, age 92, passed away Saturday, August 8, 2015.
Mary was born on July 12, 1923 to John and Lena Cecelia (Ortale) Porto in Des Moines. She loved being a part of her local community and lived a vibrant and outgoing life which included many family and friends.
Mary enjoyed playing cards and would teach anyone to play pitch. She loved the Chicago Cubs, was an avid baker and cook, and found Clear Lake to be a special place to enjoy with her family.
Survivors include daughters, Kathy Shafer and Christine (Cecil White) Anania; grandchildren, Matt Shafer, Melissa (Chris) Ollila, Mike (Ashley) Shafer; great-grandchildren, Collin and Caleb Shafer and Allie and Kaylee Ollila; and sister, Linda Porto.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Sam; parents, Lena and John Porto; son-in-law, Steve Shafer; and her siblings, Charles, Anthony, Richard, Tom and Joanne.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, August 14, 2015 at St. Ambrose Cathedral, 607 High Street. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
The family would like to thank the staff at Edencrest Assisted Living Facility for the loving care and attention they provided Mary.

Kathy and Chris, I loved your Mom!!! I am so happy I got to see her SHINE and Thrive at Edencrest.
Forever, I will see her in a deck of cards...that little smile, as she taught a new person to play cards.

Kathy and Christine, I am so sorry for your loss, Aunt Mary Louise was so great your Mom had the best laugh .I will always cherish and remember all the great times we had growing up and spending all of the Holidays together, Kathy and Christine may God bless you and your families.
