Gene left this life on July 17, 2015, at Bright Kavanagh House.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 20, 2015, at Westchester Evangelical Free Church, 4919 Aurora Avenue in Des Moines with burial following at Mitchellville Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday evening from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, Des Moines.

Gene was born October 8, 1928, in Newton, IA son of George and Olive (Anthony) Danley. He lived most of his life in the Des Moines area and graduated from East High School in 1947.

He proudly served his country in the Korean War from 1950-1952. On September 25, 1954, he married Evelyn Arlene Magg at Farrar Methodist Church in Farrar, IA and the couple was blessed with two lovely daughters, Cynthia Jean and Darcie Lyne.

Gene retired from the U.S. Postal service after 32 years as a friendly mail carrier. He also owned and operated E.E. Danley Moving and Delivery. After retirement, he worked part-time at By Design furniture.

Gene was a talented craftsman and attended many craft shows throughout the years. He enjoyed participating in and attending his grandchildren’s various activities, camping, playing games, family vacations, and working in his yard.

Gene was a lifetime member of the Beaverdale VFW Post 9127, NARFE Chapter 148, Postal Credit Union, National Association of Letter Carriers branch 352, AARP, and attended Westchester Evangelical Free Church for many years.

Gene is survived by his loving wife, Arlene, of almost 61 years; daughter, Cynthia “Cyndie” (Kendal) Flygstad of Garland, TX; three granddaughters, Amanda (Mike) Smith of Allen, TX, Christina Flygstad of Garland, TX, and Kailey Balducki of Ottumwa, IA; son-in-law, Ronald Balducki, Jr. of Ottumwa, IA; two great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Darcie Lyne Balducki; and granddaughter, Rylee Elizabeth Balducki.
His loving, giggly laugh, friendly visiting, fun-loving teasing will be greatly missed by all.
